Conrad Bangkok Hotel, Thailand
The Conrad Bangkok is a hotel essentially more suited to business travellers, but staying here in April 2014 as a family we were treated like royalty.
Right from the moment we walked in, we said our names and were then quickly escorted up to our rooms by two staff members. They then proceeded to complete check-in up there in the room. We had only booked standard rooms but as HHonors Diamond members were upgraded to a wonderful suite on the top floor with an interconnecting executive room for the boys. This suite was amazing! It had a great living area space with working desk, huge spacious bedroom and closet. The bathroom came complete with tv above the bath and awesome views over Bangkok to make taking a bath even more relaxing than ever. Waiting for us in both rooms were Conrad chocolates, macaroons and fruit platters as well as the Conrad Elephant soft toys.
We stayed here for 4 nights while there were protests happening in the city, so the hotel was not at its full capacity. We needed a bit of R&R after travelling around Thailand so we made the most of all the amenities here.
The kids loved the pool area, it is in full sun in the morning but nicely shaded in the afternoon when it became very hot. It has a nice bar and eating area with wonderful staff around always making sure everything is ok. We also played tennis daily (there are 2 courts that have been newly resurfaced)
There is a good sized gym as well if you like a bit of fitness on your travels. The Conrad has a great day spa, tried it out for a massage and facial which was so nice and relaxing – would recommend having a treatment there.
We also had access to the executive lounge, where once again the service was impeccable. The staff were constantly making sure that drinks were replenished during the evening cocktails and canapés (6.00-8.00pm). There was a good selection of both hot and cold canapés which varied daily. We didn’t use the lounge for breakfast as we had access to the buffet breakfast which we opted for instead. The buffet breakfast had a good selection of Asian and Western foods.
It was great to see the GM walking around the hotel throughout the day, to make sure things are running smoothly. We saw him checking up on the executive lounge, the pool area and also at breakfast. Sign of a well-run hotel. The staff are amazing, everyone knew who we were and were greeted as Mr & Mrs Wilson in every part of the hotel.
Location is in the business district, close to the embassies. It is not far from Lumphini Park where you can go for a walk and look for water dragons. The hotel is connected to a shopping mall where you can get snacks and drinks if you don’t want to pay hotel prices. It is about a 10 minute walk to the closest BTS station but the hotel does provide a shuttle bus if walking is not your thing.
One aspect that we love about Conrad hotels is the Conrad Concierge App (free to download) which we used daily for all our little needs like booking in a time to get our room serviced and which brand of amenities we would like in our room. Conrad hotels have a choice of Aromatherapy, Shanghai Tang, Tara Smith or The Refinery amenities (our favourites are the Shanghai Tang & Aromatherapy).
We found that it was the wonderful staff and service here that made this hotel truly superb and we wouldn’t hesitate to return to the Conrad Bangkok.
